The March of Dimes, a nonprofit organization that works to prevent birth defects, premature birth, and infant mortality, has made great strides across the country since 1938. No matter the size or location, the organization reaches out to improve the lives of babies. In Northeast Arkansas, communities are always eager to work towards this cause, and assure that the organization leaves a mark on their young victims. One of the greatest sources of income for the organization in Northeast Arkansas is the annual prom fashion show. The March of Dimes Prom Fashion Show is an event designed to help raise money for premature babies and their families, with every penny going towards improving innocent lives. Last year alone, $17,500 dollars were raised by the event.

In order for the show to be successful, a large majority of volunteers is needed. One of the many ways in which Northeast Arkansas citizens can help is by participating in the show. Beginning in November, students from schools across the district interview to model prom wear. With over one hundred students interviewing this year, the March of Dimes Chain Reaction Youth Council judged potential models based on their commitment and passion to raise money for the cause. Close to seventy models were chosen to grace the Brookland Auditorium stage in fashions provided by Jessica’s, The One, David’s Bridal, Great Expectations, Men N Black, and Men’s Warehouse.

There are high expectations set for this year’s show, full of modeling, choreography, and entertainment. Before the show begins, “Trippp,” a band composed of Chaz, JD, and Treyson Stafford will perform. Another favorite of the show is the “Mr. March” pageant, where male models will parade around in dresses and compete for the crown. Although it is a fun event and a great opportunity to get an inside look at this year’s prom fashions, the ultimate goal lies in raising money for premature babies. With this goal accomplished, the show will be an absolute success.
