Freshman Austin Pike drives to the goal in an attempt to score a layup but is hindered by two EPC Warrior defenders. Senior James Tate slams the first of his two dunks in the first quarter against the Mustangs’ biggest rival, the Riverside Rebels. CLAY TURNER – Hoof Prints Staff Both play basketball. Both just began study at a new school. Both love Keith Urban. Both are sisters. Their names? Cidnie and Callie Brooks. [...] AMBER ROLLAND – Hoof Prints Staff Just as the clock reached six minutes in the first quarter, Kaylee Greathouse sank a three-pointer from the left wing to give the Lady Mustangs their first points and the lead at 3-2. Unfortunately, the Lady Mustangs remained scoreless for the rest of the first quarter while the Lady Trojans put up nine more points to bring the score to 11-3. [...] AMBER ROLLAND – Hoof Prints Staff The first three minutes of action in the Lady Mustangs’ Friday night match-up with the Mountainburg Lady Dragons saw no score for the home team. After the Lady Mustangs received the tip, sophomore Brittany Fowler was pick-pocketed by a Mountainburg guard who turned the opportunity into a fast-break layup. The Lady Dragons scored four more unanswered points before Fowler drove into the lane for a layup. From that point on, the Lady Mustangs were never down by more than four and successfully closed the gap to one point at the end of the first quarter with a score of 14-15. [...] NATHAN WHITLOW – Guest Sports Writer The stadium is packed, but the crowd is hushed. Nothing seemed to work until they tried something different. That something different was a full court press. Confusion and fatigue seemed to dismay the opposing team. Pass after pass and turnover after turnover, the Lady Mustangs found themselves slowly inching back into the game. With each turnover comes a loud roar from the crowd, and an even louder roar after a layup. They finally found the Achilles heel of the opposing team. [...] Lady Mustangs Jenny Walker, Brittany Stockton, Kaylee Greathouse, Shania Junyor, Kalee James and Katelyn Sparkman celebrate their Regional Tournament victory against Marmaduke Saturday night. The Mustangs defeated the Greyhounds on their home court 40-39 for the title. CLAY TURNER – Hoof Prints Staff Dr. Kima Stewart sits in her chair awaiting her chance to take the floor. She was only informed that she was to place a bid for hosting the state tournament a mere week before due to the unexpected snow day. After being told that she was bidding against five other schools for the event, including Magazine, a school which had just had a new gym build two weeks before, she is finally given the opportunity to speak. She tells them how our school has two things unique about it. [...] |
