BIANCA GARICA – Hoof Prints Staff As Colby Qualls’s mother entered his grandparent’s house, he knew something was amiss. Then she said, “Colby, I have some bad news.” Colby instantly thought that someone in his family had been hurt. “It looks like you can’t attend the regional quiz bowl tournament,” she said. Colby didn’t understand. [...] BIANCA GARCIA – Hoof Prints Staff Disappointment, anger and the feeling of shock runs through the minds of the members of the BIC robotics team. This year at the Crowley’s Ridge Best Robotics competition, BIC was awarded second place in the BEST competition for the first time in four years. [...] RACHEL SIMMONS – Hoof Prints Staff Roll check. Later this year, she will wear her basketball jersey and follow her fellow teammates in a single file line onto the court. Surprisingly, she doesn’t resent the change. [...] COLBY QUALLS – Hoof Prints Editor Marching bands are blaring music. Students are wailing like a freight train. Pom poms of different colors form a rainbow within the stands. The time is running out and fast. Beads of sweat drip off the brows of the exhausted coaches’ faces. Referees are on the field straining to watch in case a call needs to be made. The buzzer gives a deafening bellow. The crowd is hushed. Within a matter of minutes, the winning robot will be announced. [...] AMBER ROLLAND – Hoof Prints Staff She didn’t expect so many people to be in the room, especially not an electrician changing a light bulb. She watched from the side as the latex-gloved hands made two incisions, concentration etched into the face belonging to the hands. Carefully, the sickly white newborn was pulled from the womb. She worried the baby had been stillborn. To her relief, it began to wail almost a minute later. [...] MEGAN MISNER – Hoof Prints Staff The senior high quiz bowl team was the “top dog” at the Regional Quiz Bowl Competition on Saturday, Mar. 13. The team members that attended were Hayley Parker, Amber Rolland, Colby Qualls (captain), Calvin Wallace, Nathan Whitlow, Katherine Clowers, Ana Meza and Timothy Neal, score-keeper.
